The Split Mountain Motel Has Everything You Need

Image
I stayed at the Split Mountain Motel in Vernal, Utah.  It was a decent place to stay & the owners were pretty nice. The room was comfortable & was equipped with a refrigerator, microwave & flat screen TV.  There was also a laundry room at the motel, which was a big plus.  It was also close to shopping & eateries.  They even have fax & photocopying services if you need them. It is located just two miles from the airport & five minutes from Dinaland Golf Course.  The Heritage Museum is just up the street.  They have wheelchair accessible rooms & are pet friendly.  Wifi is available in all rooms. I liked the location because it was right off the main road & centrally located to everything I wanted to do.

National Bible Week- Day 6

When God created Adam and Eve, He put them in an amazing paradisiac garden .  He gave the first couple only one  command- don't eat from one specific tree.  If they ate from the tree they would die.  Now, if these first two people had listened to God, where do you think they would be right now?    Well, considering they would only die if they ate from the tree, if they hadn't disobeyed and ate from that tree they would still be alive right now-- on the earth.  It was God's initial intention that they live on the Earth forever.  And refraining from eating from one tree really shouldn't have been that hard since they had an abundance of other trees, bushes and other plants to choose from. Unfortunately, they didn't listen and lost the privilege of living forever on the Earth.  They died- just like God said they would.  However, God's original purpose for humans and the Earth has not changed.  God still intends for people to live forever on a paradise.  You may be

National Bible Week- Day 5

People have been wondering for years when the last days would be here.  Jesus' disciples asked him this very question when he was on earth.  Jesus did not give them a direct answer.  You may be surprised to learn that at the time Jesus did not know the answer.  He did, however, give a description of things to look for that would signal the end of wickedness was near . In each of the four Gospels of the Bible-- Matthew, Mark, Luke and John-- you can find the signs that Jesus said to watch for.  For instance, Matthew chapter 24 tells about many things that would happen on a worldwide scale  indicating that the end was near.  Once the completion of these signs have occurred, a wonderful future is in store for us. To find out what that future is, be sure to come back tomorrow.  And be sure to subscribe so you won't miss anything.

Be Careful of Scammers

Image
It seems there are no shortage of scams.   They come in many forms, and it is important to keep alert and guard against being taken advantage of.  Below is an article I published in the Gold City Gazette several years ago.   Last weekend a woman received a call from her grandson. He was frantic. He explained to her that his best friend had invited him to his wedding in Mexico and sent him a ticket to go. He continued, telling the woman that after the wedding he was driving and had been run off the road by another driver. He said that he was alright but that he had crashed into a telephone pole. He began to cry, insisting that he had not been drinking but that the police had arrested him anyway. He said that he had even pled with the officer to give him a breathalyzer test. He went on to say that he had called the Embassy and that they had sent him a lawyer. He assured her that it had been determined that he was telling the truth but the police would not release him until he paid for th

After yesterday's post many of you may be thinking- why in the world would I want to live forever on this messed up Earth.   And you would be right.  The world is a chaotic environment filled with trauma.  Most people would agree that these are not the conditions one wants to stay in for long. But  - when you look around, there are many beautiful, wonderful things to enjoy.  We have refreshing forests that smell just amazing.  There are breathtaking natural sights all around us from the ocean to plunging cliffs and mountains.  And don't get me started on the vast variety of unique wildlife we have to observe on a daily basis, not to mention our domestic pets with their antics. Plus, we have the promises from God that He is going to fix this mess.  Yesterday, I referred to a couple of scriptures in Psalms chapter 37.  If you read that entire chapter, you will find more information about the actions God will take to reverse all of the negative elements of this world.   Isaiah cha

National Bible Week- Day 3

We have established that God created the Earth for people to live on.  What would be good to know is how long does God intend for people to live on the Earth .  People have come up with all kinds of ideas about this, but the Bible actually tells us how long God wants us to be here on the Earth. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that when God created people He put eternity into their hearts.  At Psalms 37:10, 11 & 29 it reinforces this thought by saying that upright people would inherit the Earth & live on it forever .  This only makes sense when you consider the account where God created the first man and woman. When God put them in the garden, He gave Adam & Eve the job to take care of the Earth & the animals.  Then He told them that they would die if they ate from the tree in the middle of the garden.  Think about it- where would Adam & Eve be if they had not eaten from that tree.  If they had listened and not eaten from that tree, they would still be alive today and living

National Bible Week- Day 2

So, yesterday I talked a little about Genesis 1:1.  I left you with a little cliffhanger to wonder why God made the earth. The answer to this can be found at Isaiah 45:18, where it says, "For this is what Jehovah says, The Creator of the heavens, the true God, The One who formed the earth, its Maker, who firmly established it, Who did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited." There we have it.  God made the earth to be inhabited or lived on.  Inhabited by who- for how long?  Those are two very relevant questions you may be wondering about.  Tomorrow, I will show you where you can find the answer to those questions.  They are in the Bible. Many people love to read the Bible but have difficulty understanding it.  I know I did for years- until I was shown how to unlock the secret of deciphering the Bible.  Some Bibles have cross references for various verses.  You may have noticed these cross references in your own Bible.  These references are sometimes d

National Bible Week

It is National Bible Week, so I thought I would do something a little different.  Every day this week I will post a Bible verse with some thoughts to ponder over.  Hopefully, it is something you will enjoy. I thought since this is the first one I would start at the beginning with Genesis 1:1.  Most people are familiar with this verse.  Of course, it says there, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."   Okay- so have you ever stopped to wonder why   God created the earth?  He certainly didn't need  the earth.  He did have a reason, though.  Did you know that the Bible actually tells us why He created the earth.  Tomorrow I will reveal where the Bible gives us this information.   In the meantime, if you have any ideas or thoughts on the answer comment below.  Also, if you have a favorite scripture or question about a scripture you have difficulty understanding, comment about that.  Maybe I can help you find the answer in the Bible itself.  📕

Learn About the Uinta Basin at the Heritage Museum In Vernal, Utah

Image
The Heritage Museum contains a vast timeline of various individuals who migrated to the high desert for a wide variety of reasons.  Each person had a significant reason for making this area home.  Docents at the museum continually add more stories to the historical record. Touring the museum is like going back in time to visit the interesting families who formed the foundation of this unique area.  The best part about it is the experience is free.  Of course, donations are always gladly accepted. The facility holds an awesome collection of art.  Some of the pieces are featured in a virtual art show.  It's always more fun to actually go to various events and places, but if you can't there are online features you can check out from home.  One of these fun features is the Museum Kids videos.  These videos are provided because the museum strives to be an educational hub in the community. I had fun touring the museum, and hopefully you will enjoy looking at these photos I took.  If

Do Something Nice For Someone During Random Acts of Kindness Week

Image
There is still time to go out of your way to do something nice for someone.  Of course, it is always good to strive to be kind to others- especially during these crazy times.  But this week we all have the opportunity to make an extra effort to be kind. There are all kinds of ways to show kindness to others.  It could be as simple as opening the door for someone.  Maybe you could buy a friend- or a stranger- a cup of coffee.  If someone cuts in front of you in line just let it go.  After all, it really isn't that big of a deal in the larger scheme of things.   Make your gestures of kindness more meaningful by not telling anyone about them.  At Matthew 6:3, Jesus told us ," But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your  left   hand  know what your  right   hand  is doing."  If we apply this in our lives, it shows that we are not just doing things for others for recognition or to see what we can get out of the deed.  Try it- you will feel good about yourself. Chowin' Down At The Dinosaur Brew Haus in Vernal, Utah

Image
Vernal has a lot of good places to eat. One that I stopped at was the Dinosaur Brew Haus . The atmosphere was good and you can watch TV while you hang out. The bathrooms were clean and nicely decorated. They even have a patio area. They have daily specials- like Fish Day Friday. I had a salad & it was perty yummy. If you are ever in Vernal, you should stop in for a bite.  Be sure to check out their Facebook page by clicking the link above before you go.

Take Care of Your Lungs

Image
It seems that practically every month has a significant event connected to it.  February is Black History Month.  April is Stress Awareness Month & Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  August is National Eye Exam Month.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Domestic Violence Awareness Month.   November also has several things linked to it.  Many of them have to do with the lungs.  November is COPD Awareness Month, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and Great American Smoke Out Month.  These issues resonate with me since I am a Respiratory Therapist.   While some pulmonary disorders are genetic & unavoidable, most can be prevented by avoiding certain things.  That's where the Great American Smoke Out comes into play.  As a former smoker - and a Respiratory Therapist- I try to encourage smokers to quit.  If you have already quit- that's awesome!  Congratulations on your success.  If you have never smoked, better yet. There are a number of issues that come with respirator

Let's Tour The Dinosaur Quarry In Vernal, Utah

Image
I never thought I would go to Utah- ever .  I am so glad I did, though.  Utah has some beautiful, breathtaking scenery.  If you have never been to Utah, I highly recommend it.  There are tons of activities you can do there that are perfect for social distancing. One thing I discovered about Utah is there are oodles of dinosaur fossils throughout the state.  I was surprised and delighted to be able to see these amazing artifacts.  The Dinosaur Quarry in Vernal is particularly awesome.  Not only is it just about the coolest looking museum I have ever seen, but when you walk in you are actually in the archeological dig itself. Visitors are able to walk in between thousands of dinosaur bones and even touch them.  How cool is that?!?!?!  Rangers are there to tell about the museum & answer questions.  If you are ever in Vernal, you really should check this place out! I give the Dinosaur Quarry a great big Cookie Cheer.

Cookie Tells A Story

Today I would like to address something a little more serious.  Many people spend a lot of time doing something they know is bad for them, yet they do it anyway.  If you watched my video, you already know I am talking about smoking. I don't want to "come down" on you or present this in a negative, condescending way.  After all, I used to smoke too.  I quit smoking 30 years ago and am so glad I did.  I have asthma and can only imagine how much difficulty I would have breathing if I hadn't quit when I did.   I really don't have to spend too much time imagining it after watching my dad suffer for years & spending 25 years working with people who have respiratory problems from smoking.  I quit " cold turkey " but not everyone is able to do that. I always tell people it is easy to quit.  I did it several times.  All you have to do is put the cigarettes, cigar, pipe, etc. down & say you are not going to do it anymore.  The hard part is to keep from sta
