Responsible Pet Owner's Month
I remember when the 101 Dalmatians Movie came out & people thought it would be cool to have one. It was like Dalmatians were some kind of a fad. It was really sad because many of these dogs ended up in animal shelters. People did not know about or understand the personality traits of these poor dogs before getting them. The new owners found themselves unable to manage the spotted pups. This type of behavior is so unfair to animals.
There are a lot of factors involved in being a responsible pet owner. It is important to do your research before you get a pet so you understand exactly what you will be dealing with. If there is a possibility that your pet could become pregnant, it is prudent to have that pet spade or take other actions to prevent that from happening unless you are able to provide a suitable home for the offspring of your pet—or know somebody who is willing & able to do so. This is responsible & humane behavior.
If you aren’t sure whether you are ready for a pet, there are lots of shelters that need help caring for animals. Why not volunteer at one? Who knows—you might just find a forever friend there. There are also a lot of pet foster opportunities out there. We can make sure our pets are healthy & happy if we plan ahead & make sure we are up to the task.
