Cookie's Product Satisfaction Review- Pepsi, Starbucks, and Safeway/Carrs

Image
It can be very frustrating to buy something and have it not to be up to par.  I am all about getting my money's worth.  When something I buy does not measure up the way it should, I definitely let the company know about it.  Most of the time, voicing my dissatisfaction yields good results.  Companies that produce consumer goods typically want to make sure their customers are satisfied so they keep coming back to buy more products.  Of course, occasionally an organization will show that it just doesn't care whether customers are happy or not.  But the majority do care- some very much so. I just want to say that while I have been known to complain about something that did not measure up, I feel it is just as important to let a business know when it has provided superior service or products.  Sometimes, I will go out of my way to let a business know it has done something incredibly well.  I mean, positive reinforcement has been shown to produce better results than negative reinfor

Freedom Friday- Intermittent Fasting Results

Image
My health coach has wanted me to try intermittent fasting since I first started going to her.  I have been resistant because, besides being skeptical that it actually works, I was worried that I would be starving the entire time I was doing it.  I did a little reading about it and decided to at least try it.  I knew if it didn't work out well I could always go back to what I had been doing , so it was worth a shot. I had an excellent week with awesome results.  Even though I increased my caloric intake this week along with the intermittent fasting, I lost 7 pounds !  I am ecstatic with the success I had with this technique.  I received several little rewards as a result of my fasting.  I am really glad I tried it.  I am going to continue intermittent fasting because it seems like my system really likes it.

How Does A Person Become A Victim of Domestic Violence?

Image
With the death of Gabby  Petito, some are saying that the wrong conversation is being had about the tragedy.  They feel that not enough attention is being given to the domestic violence that was apparently a facet of her relationship with her fiancĂ©.  A spokesperson from  Futures Without Violence said that by looking at this situation as an isolated incident, not enough focus is being placed on the prevalence of domestic violence .   Cases of domestic violence are continually increasing worldwide .  With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I felt it was important to implore people to be more aware of possible abusive circumstances.  As an abuse survivor, I feel it is important for everyone to be alert to behavior that might indicate abuse. When I finally made the decision to escape the abuse I was experiencing, most of my friends said that they had no clue anything was going on.  They did not know that I was stressed out and depressed all of the time.  They were not aware

California Is On Fire- Again

Image
Many are concerned about the California wildfires.  It seems that each year half of California is on fire.  I have to admit that the past few years have been worse though.  I grew up living with the California wild fires- but when Paradise was destroyed a few years ago it really affected me.  I had always loved Paradise and almost moved there at one point.  I could not - and still cannot believe that entire town went up in smoke.  It brings a tear to my eye still today. With my brother being evacuated twice this year, the current fires really hit home with me.  I am very happy that I no longer have to deal with these yearly events but find myself concerned for my brother- and others that I am close to that still live in California. Some of the most recent news stories express concern about the Giant Sequoias .  This got me thinking about the Redwoods.  They are safe for now, but it would be a shame to lose a large population of either the Sequoias or the Redwoods to these fires.  It wo

Freedom Friday- Intermittent Fasting

Image
Although I have not lost quite as much weight as I would have liked at this stage, I am happy with the steady progress I am making.  I am feeling healthier and stronger, and have lost a total of 38 pounds so far.  I have made little tweaks to my dietary intake each week as I learn how my system responds to various foods.  I have also been able to increase my activity level because my back has gotten stronger.  It is not as painful as before to walk longer distances.  I have even taken walks with Kevin lasting 45 minutes!  He loves it. I now find myself at the threshold of a new detour in my journey.  When I started this path that I am on, my health coach brought up something that she said at some point she would want me to try- intermittent fasting.  My first thought was- NO WAY!  I just knew that I would not be able to go long periods of time without eating, even if much of that time was at night when I was sleeping.  I have been a late night snacker for some time now.  I especially d

Freedom Friday- Therapy

Image
This has definitely been an interesting learning experience.  I am determined to live a healthier lifestyle & have already made several tweaks to my habits.  While I am not in any way some sort of mental or emotional counselor, I want to share my personal experiences with all of you.  I do this because I hope that I will inspire others to obtain help with any type of change they might want to make.   These types of changes involve more than just the behavior one wants to make.  I gave an example in my video above.  This is not just about losing weight & being healthier.  In order to achieve these goals, I have had to overcome mental & emotional hurdles.  This has taken several years.  It is really interesting & encouraging to see the growth I have gone through & the progress I have made. I thought participating in STEPtember would boost my weight loss, but this week I only lost a pound.  Don't get me wrong- I'm glad I lost another pound, I just thought I wou

Freedom Friday- STEPtember

Image
I have been slowly progressing toward my goals to achieve better health.  I have been eating healthier & trying to make sure I drink enough water.  You all know that is a monumental hurdle for me.  LOL.  I have also been increasing my activity level & I really think STEPtember will help me do that.  In fact, it has already helped.   STEPtember is an event that benefits those with Cerebral Palsy .  I misspoke when I posted my first video about participating in this event.  I said that the goal was to get 12,000 steps a day.  It is supposed to be 10,000 steps a day- OOOPS!  Oh well- since I said it, I decided to go for the 12,000 steps a day.  I have been using exercise videos to help me achieve my goal.  I have also been taking Kevin for a lot of walks.  Another way I get steps is by parking as far as I can away from the entrance if I have to go to the store or somewhere else.   The best part about my participating in STEPtember is you can win prizes!  If you make a donation - a
