It's Spiritual Literacy Month- Can the Bible Really Help You?
Many people are struggling with a lot of stressful issues right now. The Bible used to be the go-to source when people had problems they wanted to solve, but most individuals have gotten away from that habit. Could it be that we could gain assistance and relief from reading the Bible? Since it is Spiritual Literacy Month, I wanted to help people find the benefits of looking to the Bible for help with daily issues.
Many people don’t realize it, but the Bible actually contains advice and guidance for every aspect of our lives. God provided this wonderful resource because He cares about us and wants to help us with our problems. This amazing book assures us of this at Isaiah 41:10, where it says, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you. I will really hold onto you with my right hand of righteousness.”
God sees everything that we are going through, and He is truly concerned about the things we face in life. The Bible can be viewed as a detailed letter from Him filled with all kinds of advice on how to handle various situations. For example, the end of the fifth chapter and the beginning of the sixth chapter of Ephesians gives guidelines on how family members are to treat each other. The fourth chapter of Ephesians tells us how we should treat people in general.
The Bible is full of verses that can help us deal with anxiety—and who can say they have not experienced at least some anxiety over the past 18 months? Psalms 55:22 encourages us to throw all of our problems to God and assures us that He is constantly waiting—ready to help us through difficult situations. And Matthew 6:27 explains that we cannot add a single second to our lives by worrying about things that may or may not happen. In fact, stress and worry have been shown to cause all kinds of health problems and even shorten people’s lifespans.
The Bible can not only help us with our problems, but it can also give us a measure of joy and contentment. Reading the Bible regularly can help us develop a closer relationship with God and give us peace of mind. I will be posting encouraging information about how the Bible can sustain us each Sunday this month. I hope you will enjoy the segments. I published similar posts last year during National Bible Week, so be sure to check those out too.
